Clean water for a green Slovenia: EU funding for wastewater infrastructure in Municipality Hrastnik

Ljubljana, 1 September 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Wastewater collection and treatment in the Sava River basin – Municipality Hrastnik. The EUR 2.8 million wastewater infrastructure project that will be implemented by Municipality Hrastnik under the Agreement on the development of the Zasavje region will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting to EUR 1.5 million.

As part of the project, quality wastewater infrastructure will be developed, a total of 5,113 meters of sewer pipes laid and two pumping stations constructed in the agglomeration Hrastnik; all of these measures will bring benefits to local population, including to additional 815 residents that will be newly connected to the system. Efficient and safe wastewater infrastructure will help improve the quality of life in the municipality, in turn, this will help retain the existing residents in the local environment and attract new ones. Additionally, the project will help significantly reduce water pollution.
