EU funding for constructing an extension to the Institute of Energy Technology

EU funding for constructing an extension to the Institute of Energy Technology

Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant-award decision for the project Institute of Energy Technology of the Faculty of Energy Technology, University of Maribor (hereinafter FET UM). As part of the project, an extension to the existing facility will be built. The extension will house infrastructure for conducting research in the field of aero and hydro energy technologies and computer-aided design and engineering. The project is worth more than EUR 5.2 million with European Regional Development Fund contribution standing at a good EUR 4.2 million.

Energy technology is an extremely fast-developing technical science in terms of energy processes, devices and technologies. Modern trends in energy technology dictate development in the direction of energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly technologies. Such development requires adequate infrastructure and equipment that supports overall and comprehensive scientific research.

To this end, an extension to the existing facility will be built within the Institute of Energy Technology which will result in establishing appropriate conditions for the implementation of FET UM research activities. The extension will house infrastructure for conducting research in the field of aero and hydro energy technologies and computer-aided design and engineering. The necessary research equipment for other FET UM laboratories, which will operate in the premises of the Institute of Energy Technology in Vrbina, will also be purchased. The project will contribute to more modern equipment and improve the conditions for scientific research activities of the faculty, and will also indirectly help improve educational activities and open new employment opportunities.
