636 thousand Euros of ESF funds to improve the skills of professionals for more successful integration of immigrants in education

Ljubljana, 23 July 2013 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding funds for the public call for proposals “Improving the skills of professionals for a more successful integration of immigrants in education”. The overall amount of the grant, which will be awarded under the public call for proposals by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, amounts to almost 750 thousand Euros. The European Social Fund contribution amounts to 636 thousand Euros.

The public call for proposals will provide co-financing of activities designed to improve the skills of professionals for the effective integration of immigrant pupils and students from other linguistic and cultural backgrounds into the Slovenian education system. Among other things, the aim of the training is to ensure the maximum responsiveness of professionals to the individual needs of immigrant children and at the same time enhance the capacity of schools to respond quickly to changes in the local environment.

The public call for proposals will also contribute to a more effective integration of immigrant children for better quality of life as well as improve the future labour market situation and the development of a multicultural society. With the implementation of the practical activities within the training, schools will have the opportunity to give greater attention to the educational needs of immigrant children, together with their families and the local community, with the teachers and students, schools faculties and the pupils of the schools with immigrant children as well as the provision of leisure and holiday activities, especially with a view to achieve greater communicative competence, greater chances of successful education and greater social inclusion.

For more information please contact the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, which will publish the public call for proposals and will also be responsible for the public call for proposals.
