EU funds for raising the level of professional competences of teachers

Ljubljana, 25 July 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the programme “Raising the level of professional competences of teachers”, which will be implemented by the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training. The available grant, which will be used in 2014 and 2015 for project implementation, amounts to 481,000 euros of which the European Social Fund contribution amounts to 85 %, i.e. 408,850 euros.

The programme targets the teachers in secondary vocational and technical schools, namely teachers of technical modules and other employees, to attend training in companies. Vocational education cannot be implemented in a high quality manner without well trained and competent teachers, who are well acquainted not only with the pedagogical process but also with the modern trends of the profession, entrepreneurial mindset and culture. The programme will support circular employment as the teachers and other employees, who will attend training in companies, will be temporarily substituted by company’s experts or appropriately trained unemployed individuals. The objective of the programme is to finance 80 circular employments.

The programme aims to raise the quality of secondary vocational and technical training by also focusing on gaining new knowledge, skills and competences and thus enhance employment opportunities and long-term competitiveness, as well as to promote innovation and linking education with labour market needs.
