Ljubljana, 29 July 2013 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the programme Healthy lifestyle 2013-2014. The overall framework value of the programme, which will be implemented by the Sports Institute of the Republic of Slovenia Planica, is 2.1 million Euros. The European Social Fund contribution amounts to 85 percent of the overall value or a little under 1.8 million Euros.

The objective of the programme is the additional incentive for the primary school pupils for a healthy lifestyle through sports activities as well as the active inclusion of 20 to 30 percent of primary school pupils. Elimination of the consequences of the negative effects of modern lifestyle is the primary objective of the programme which will provide 5 hours of sports activities for pupils per week. The children, included in the programme, will be subject to everyday professionally guided exercise which is in accordance with the recommendations of the EU guidelines for physical activity and in accordance with the Strategy of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of physical activity for the promotion of health.

At least 12 indoor, outdoor and field sports will be presented in the framework of the programme. The children will also be introduced to urban sports and – in cooperation with the local sports associations – also to the sports in their environment.
