EU funds for the renovation of the Institute of Chemistry extension

Ljubljana, 12 August 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a grant award decision for the renovation of the extension of the Institute of Chemistry of Slovenia. The aim of the investment is to renovate the existing extension where the laboratory for biotechnology as well as a segment of the laboratory for biomolecule structure is located. The value of the project amounts to 2.2 million euros of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to approximately 1.8 million euros.

861.02 m2 of the infrastructure for research will be renovated with the investment also funding the purchase of new research equipment. The investment will thus provide adequate workspace to carry out the scientific and research activity smoothly and to guarantee greater safety for the employees.

The project will also contribute to enhancing the quality of products and services within the Slovenian as well as the international sphere. The realisation of the project will also result in raising the level of experimental and research activity; it will also improve the organisation and quality of laboratory work as well as upgrade certain existing methods of research and introduce new ones. This will result in raising the quality of scientific and research achievements, improve the support environment for economic activity and thus step up the competitiveness of the economy.

For more information please contact the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, which is responsible for the implementation of the project.
