EU funds for upgrading railway track Slovenska Bistrica – Pragersko

Ljubljana, 10 June 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision to award funds to the project “Upgrading the railway track Slovenska Bistrica – Pragersko”. The value of the project amounts to a little under 38 million euros of which the Cohesion Fund contribution amounts to over 21 million euros.
The project covers the upgrade of the double-track railway section Zidani Most – Šentilj, namely on the section between the stations Slovenska Bistrica and Pragersko in the length of 5.6 km. In addition to the upgrading of tracks the project also covers renovation of two level crossings, rehabilitation of the substructure, the Črešnjevec tunnel and the bridge structures, renovation of retaining and supporting walls, construction of new prefabricated culverts, installation of a buffer thick 70 cm, a rail track drainage arrangement throughout the network between the two station sections, reconstruction of the contact wires and other works.
The abovementioned will promote the railway track from category C3 (20 tonnes/axle and 72 kN/m) to D4 (22.5 tonnes/axle and 80 kN/m) and thus eliminate the bottleneck in terms of track categories. Railway line capacity will increase from 165 trains/day to 170 trains/day and the transport capacity from 11.95 million net tonnes per year to 12.24 million net tonnes per year. In addition, travel times will shorten, maintenance costs will reduce and the quality of rail carrier services will improve.
For more information please contact the Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning, which acts as the Intermediate Body for the project and is responsible for its implementation.
