European Commission approves Operational Programme for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy in the Period 2014-2020

Ljubljana, 15 December 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy (GODC) received the European Commission (EC) decision approving the Slovenian Operational Programme for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy in the Period 2014-2020.

Minister Alenka Smerkolj said that “we can be very pleased with the fact that Slovenia is one of the first EU Member States to receive the EC decision approving the Operational Programme. The line ministries will thus be able to publish the calls for proposals already in the first half of 2015 and the beneficiaries will be able to apply for EU funds support.”

Slovenia has prepared one single Operational Programme for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy in the Period 2014-2020 (for the period 2007-2013 Slovenia developed three operational programmes). On 20 November 2014 GODC submitted the Operational Programme for approval to the EC. The Operational Programme is the implementing document serving as the basis for the absorption of the EUR 3.2 billion available in the period 2014-2020 under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Cohesion Fund (CF).

The document, which identifies the priority areas which will be subject to Slovenia’s investment in the next seven years, complies with the Partnership Agreement between Slovenia and the European Commission for the Period 2014-2020, follows the Europe 2020 strategy and meets the Fund-specific requirements in order to establish economic, social and territorial cohesion.
